Hitagen4 mg

Hitagen 4 mg is indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Urticaria (hives)
• Sensitivity reactions (allergic reactions)
• Angioneurotic edema
• Vasomotor rhinitis
• Cough
• Common cold
• Motion sickness
• Other allergic conditions

Because of its antihistaminic action, Hitagen 4 mg helps relieve symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and nasal congestion associated with allergies and upper respiratory conditions.

Sedating Anti-histamine

Hitagen 4 mg is an alkylamine antihistamine and is considered one of the most potent histamine H1-receptor blocking agents used clinically. It works by competitively blocking H1-receptors, thereby preventing histamine from binding and triggering allergic symptoms such as itching, sneezing, and vasodilation.

Compared to other sedating antihistamines, such as promethazine, Hitagen 4 mg generally causes less sedation, although some drowsiness may still occur, particularly at higher doses. Because it crosses the blood-brain barrier to some degree, it is classified as a first-generation (sedating) antihistamine, distinguishing it from newer, non-sedating second-generation antihistamines.

Hitagen 4 mg has been reported to be physically incompatible with the following substances, particularly when mixed in the same injection or infusion solution:

• Calcium chloride
• Kanamycin sulfate
• Noradrenaline acid tartrate
• Pentobarbital sodium
• Meglumine adipiodone

As with other sedating antihistamines, caution should also be exercised when Hitagen 4 mg is combined with other CNS depressants (such as alcohol, sedatives, or opioids), as this may increase drowsiness. Patients should inform their doctor about all other medications they are taking before starting therapy.

Hitagen 4 mg is generally well-tolerated. However, some patients may experience the following side effects:

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Muscular weakness
• Gastrointestinal upset

Patients should consult their doctor if these effects are severe or persistent, or if any other unusual symptoms develop during treatment.

Hitagen 4 mg should not be used in lactating mothers or during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Patients who are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding should consult their physician before using this medicine, and an alternative may be considered if needed.

Hitagen 4 mg should be used with caution in patients with:

• Glaucoma
• Prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate)

During therapy with Hitagen 4 mg, caution should be exercised while driving vehicles or operating machinery, as the medicine may cause drowsiness or reduced alertness.

Overdose of Hitagen 4 mg may produce the following effects:

• CNS depression, including sedation, apnoea, and cardiovascular collapse
• CNS stimulation, including insomnia, hallucinations, tremors, and convulsions
• Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
• Blurred vision
• Dizziness
• Ataxia (loss of coordination)
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

In children, stimulation and atropine-like signs and symptoms are more likely to occur, including dry mouth, fixed and dilated pupils, flushing, hyperthermia, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Any suspected overdose requires prompt medical attention and supportive management.

Store in a cool place (below 25°C) and in a dry area, protected from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
